  • The Best Himalayan Cuisine

In addition to serving wonderful food, our mission is to generate peace in the world. My name is Brihaspati Lama and most friends call me Lama Ji. I was born in 1969 in Kavrepalanchok, at the base of Annapurna Mountain. My father wanted me to be a lawyer and I did get a law degree but mountain food is where my heart was, and still is.
As a little boy, I helped the trekkers and learnt about food, local food that the foreigners enjoyed. At that time French climbers ascended to Annapurna's base camp in droves and wanted either food served as a plat du jour a la Paree. I must have made my first plat when I was ten!

I studied hard and cooked on the side. I had the honor of cooking for the H.E. Dalai Lama in Dharamsala for thirteen years. I have been a chef in the United States for seven years at the Hilton and now I am free to invent dishes for my friends. I have selected only dishes that can be considered healthy.

The cuisine of the Himalayas is similar to Indian food but not as heavy. Nepalese cuisine is exotic and spicy. Garlic, ginger, and mixes of Himalayan spices infuse Nepali dishes with an extraordinarily appealing zest. A mountain high!

i have been there a couple of times now. i have to say i really like this place. i got different things everytime, the meat is very good and the vegetarian dishes are very special and different. the food is very simple, healthy and has a lot of flavor. do not get fooled by the way it looks. it's a very simple place, but you'll love the food!!! and the samosas are the best in town! i would say it is one of the best hidden restaurants in boston.

My husband and I went here for Valentine's Day and we really loved it. The staff was very friendly and the food was just delicious! They had a variety of vegetarian dishes, and I ended up eating the Afghan "ravioli" filled with scallions. My husband had a lovely dish called Mantwo, which were like dumplings filled with beef. Both of us were pleasantly surprised and really enjoyed our experience. The only downside is that the service was a little slow even though the place only had about 5 couples in it. But the food was so good and the people so nice that we'll definitely go back again.

Pros: convenient to Porter Square T

Cons: none
